Draw the culture profile of the country in which you grew up on the six Hofstede et al. (2010) dimensions. Then imagine two persons from two different countries and imagine how each of them will describe your culture to a compatriot. To address this, Geert Hofstede conducted a survey of 117,000 employees of IBM and created a unique model of six cultural dimensions, namely power distance, uncertainty avoidance, long-term orientation, individualism, masculinity, and indulgence. Hofstede’s model indicates 5 dimensions, which are Power distances, Individualism, Uncertainty avoidance, Masculine and Long-term orientation (Hofetede, 1998), to distinguish culture in differen a new set of cultural dimensions for the specific purpose of studying classroom culture, with three such dimensions emerging from a principal components analysis of the present data set.
